 Welcome to our worship this morning!
At St Luke's we seek to share God's unconditional love and acceptance of all people, regardless of age gender, race, marital or family status, sexual orientation disability or wealth.

 

Today, in the midst of a feast about angels, the Psalmist writes that at a time when he called upon the Lord, God gave an answer and put new strength within his soul. Those who have experienced crises will know this to be true. God is reliable and fortifies us in times of trouble.

• Pray for those in dark situations and those faced with tough decisions.
• Pray for ABM’s board, staff, volunteers, state and provincial and diocesan committee members, Auxiliary and Associate members.

Almighty God,
 you govern the courses of this world
         by means too wonderful for us to comprehend:

First Reading                                                             Daniel 7.9-10, 13-14

A reading from the book of the Prophet Daniel

As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire.
A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousand served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgement, and the books were opened. As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. To him was given dominion and glory and kingship that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away,
and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

A reading from the book of Revelation

And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming, ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah,
for the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. But they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not cling to life even in the face of death. Rejoice then, you heavens and those who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you with great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!’

What’s on this Week:

It was announced last week that a member of the Melanesian Brotherhood (Solomon Islands) in Popondetta, Oro Province, Papua New Guinea had been murdered.  Br Tolbon Diwaero was killed late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning by unidentified persons on his way back to Domara Household. It appeared Br Diwaero was “mistakenly murdered” as he passed a village where there was a clash between two groups. Further details about the incident are unknown at present.  Your prayers are asked for members of the Papua New Guinea Brotherhood.

Parish Council meets today in the Emmaus Room after morning tea.
AND Anglicans Together AGM today at St James Hall, 1st King Street, at 2.30 pm.  All welcome.

There will also be a mime artist (Dennis Clare) for our entertainment in the parish hall.  Bring your friends and pets along.  All welcome!

Our ABM Parish Projects for 2015

• Al-Ahli Arab Hospital Gaza (PS001LH); this hospital is the oldest hospital in Gaza City and has 80 beds.  It provides medical and health services to patients regardless of ethnicity religion, political affiliation or economic status.  It serves everybody in the community.
• Wontulp-Bi-Buya Theological College in Cairns (AU003WB); trains indigenous people for ordained ministry and lay-ministry.
• Language, Literacy and Numeracy in Vanuatu VU006EA)

Our total to ABM this year towards our nominated projects is $7,365.30.

BEQUESTS
We have benefited greatly in the past from bequests left to the parish by parishioners who have included St Luke’s in their will.  Some amounts left to the Parish have been large, some very small; all have been appreciated. The Wardens have elected to retain this capital and generally only use the interest as needed for various projects.  If you would like to think about this and include St Luke’s in your will it is one way of ensuring the ongoing maintenance of this extraordinary parish.
