ABM logo even text b&w

Today, in the midst of a feast about angels, the Psalmist writes that at a time when he called upon the Lord, God gave an answer and put new strength within his soul. Those who have experienced crises will know this to be true. God is reliable and fortifies us in times of trouble.

  • Pray for those in dark situations and those faced with tough decisions.
  • Pray for ABM’s board, staff, volunteers, state and provincial and diocesan committee members, Auxiliary and Associate members.

The Sentence:And all the angels sang, ‘Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.’                                           Revelation 7.12

The Collect:

Almighty God,
 you govern the courses of this world
         by means too wonderful for us to comprehend:
give us reverence before the mysteries of your providence,
and grace to know the messengers of your will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

First Reading                                                             Daniel 7.9-10, 13-14

A reading from the book of the Prophet Daniel

As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire.
A stream of fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousand served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in judgement, and the books were opened. As I watched in the night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with the clouds of heaven. And he came to the Ancient One and was presented before him. To him was given dominion and glory and kingship that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away,
and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed.

For the word of the Lord                                        Thanks be to God

Psalm 138
Psalm 138
1  I will give you thanks O LORD with my | whole | heart;
    even before the  | gods will I | sing your | praises;

2  I will bow down toward your holy temple and give | thanks to your |
                 name:
           because of your faithfulness and your loving-kindness
                 for you have made your name and your | word su-| preme
                 over | all things

3  At a time when I called you, you | gave me | answer,
    and put new | strength with-| in my | soul.

4  All the kings of the earth shall | praise you O | LORD,
    for they have | heard the | words of your | mouth.

5  And they shall sing of the | ways of the | LORD,
    that the | glory of the | LORD is | great.

6  For though the LORD is exalted, he looks up-| on the | lowly;
    but he | humbles the | proud from a-| far.

7 Though I walk in the midst of danger, yet will you pre-| serve my | life:
    you will stretch out your hand against the fury of my enemies
           and  | your right  | hand shall  | save me.

8  The LORD will complete his | purpose | for me;
     your loving-kindness, O LORD endures for ever
           do not forsake the | work of your |own | hands.

Glo-| ry to | God; Father | Son and | Holy | Spirit;
As in the be-| ginning so | now; and for-| ever. | A-| men

Second Reading                                                                  Revelation 12.7-12a

A reading from the book of Revelation

And war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels fought back, but they were defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. The great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming, ‘Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah,
for the accuser of our comrades has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. But they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not cling to life even in the face of death. Rejoice then, you heavens and those who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you with great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!’

For the word of the Lord                                         Thanks be to God

The Gospel                                                                      John 1.45-51

The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John
X Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Philip found Nathanael and said to him, ‘We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.’ Nathanael said to him, ‘Can anything good come out of Nazareth?’ Philip said to him, ‘Come and see.’ When Jesus saw Nathanael coming towards him, he said of him, ‘Here is truly an Israelite in whom there is no deceit!’ Nathanael asked him, ‘Where did you come to know me?’ Jesus answered, ‘I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.’ Nathanael replied, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!’ Jesus answered, ‘Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than these.’ And he said to him, ‘Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.’

For the Gospel of the Lord                     Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

BEQUESTS
We have benefited greatly in the past from bequests left to the parish by parishioners who have included St Luke’s in their will.  Some amounts left to the Parish have been large, some very small; all have been appreciated. The Wardens have elected to retain this capital and generally only use the interest as needed for various projects.  If you would like to think about this and include St Luke’s in your will it is one way of ensuring the ongoing maintenance of this extraordinary parish.
