Both the Psalmist’s words, and the Song of Mary (the Magnificat) make it plain that God’s heart has a special place for the poor. God raises them up to lofty places. We see this particularly in Mary, the peasant teenager through whom God decided to take on human flesh, becoming one of us.

  • Pray that like Mary, you will bring God to birth in the world around you.
  • Pray for the Church of South India, giving thanks for the work they do to further God’s mission in the world.

Introit Hymn TIS 302.    The angel Gabriel

Sentence:   When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, so that we might receive adoption as God’s children.
                                                                                                Galatians 4.4-5
The Collect:
Loving God,
who chose the Blessed virgin Mary
to be the mother of your incarnate Son:
grant that we, who are redeemed by his blood,
may share with her in the glory of your eternal kingdom;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading                                                                                      Isaiah 61.10-62.3

A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah

I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations. For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until her vindication shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning torch. The nations shall see your vindication, and all the kings your glory; and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will give. You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.

For the word of the Lord                                                  Thanks be to God

Psalm 113

Psalm 113

1 Praise the Lord! O sing praises you that | are his | servants:
            O | praise the | name of the | Lord.
2 Let the name of the | Lord be | blessed;
            from | this time | forward and for | ever.
3 From the rising of the sun to its | going | down;
            let the | name of the | Lord be | praised.
4 The Lord is exalted  over | all the | nations:
            and his | glory is a- | bove the | heavens.
5 Who can be likened to the | Lord our | God:
            in | heaven or u- | pon the |earth.
6 Who has his | dwelling so | high:
           yet condescends to | look on | things be-| neath?
7 He raises the lowly | from the | dust:
                        and lifts the | poor from | out of the | dung-heap:
8 He gives them a place a-| mong the | princes:
           even among the | princes | of his | people.
† 9 He causes the barren woman | to keep | house:
           and makes her a joyful mother of children | Praise | the | Lord.

Second Reading                                                                     Galatians 4.4-7

A reading from Paul’s letter to the Galatians

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God.

For the word of the Lord                                                   Thanks be to God

The Gospel                                                           Luke 2.1-7

The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according toLuke
X Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ

In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

For the Gospel of the Lord                                   Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

ORGAN PIPES REDECORATING
We are endeavouring to restore the facade pipes of the organ to their original condition to complete the restoration of our historic organ. This will cost in the vicinity of $25,000. The amount we have already contributed and held by the Organ Historical Trust of Australia (OHTA) is $13,130. OHTA does have some amounts from this year still to be booked but is not sure if they came from us due to lack of paperwork. So if you have donated and have not yet received a receipt, please speak to Kathy Drummond urgently.  Donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible through the trust account. If you would like to contribute, please complete the form in the brochure (available in hall and foyer) and make the cheque out to St Luke’s Enmore – OHTA Fund.  We will transfer it to OHTA who will issue you a receipt.
