The Collect:  

Merciful God,
in your Son you call not the righteous but sinners to repentance:
draw us away from the easy road that leads to destruction,
and guide us into paths that lead to life abundant,
that in seeking your truth,
and obeying your will,
we may know the joy of being a disciple of Jesus our Saviour;
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,

Then Job answered: ‘Today also my complaint is bitter; his hand is heavy despite my groaning. O that I knew where I might find him,  that I might come even to his dwelling! I would lay my case before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would learn what he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me. Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power?  Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and  laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.  Since, then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who in every respect has been tested as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Sunday 18th October - St Luke’s Patronal Festival with our Guest Preacher, the Rev’d Anastasia Webster-Hawes, Rector of Blayney.   Anastasia and Don will be with us for the dinner and are staying with Fr Philip and Rosemary.
Sunday 25 October - Parish Council meets following morning tea.
Saturday 31 October – Working Bee in the Rectory Garden.
Saturday 28 November – Our Christmas Market! Time to start baking our Christmas cakes and puddings!

Our ABM Parish Projects for 2015

• Al-Ahli Arab Hospital Gaza (PS001LH); this hospital is the oldest hospital in Gaza City and has 80 beds.  It provides medical and health services to patients regardless of ethnicity religion, political affiliation or economic status.  It serves everybody in the community.
• Wontulp-Bi-Buya Theological College in Cairns (AU003WB); trains indigenous people for ordained ministry and lay-ministry.
• Language, Literacy and Numeracy in Vanuatu VU006EA)

Our total to ABM this year towards our nominated projects is $7,365.30.

Flowers may be given in memory of loved ones; please see Ruth if you would like to do this at any time.

BEQUESTS
We have benefited greatly in the past from bequests left to the parish by parishioners who have included St Luke’s in their will.  Some amounts left to the Parish have been large, some very small; all have been appreciated. The Wardens have elected to retain this capital and generally only use the interest as needed for various projects.  If you would like to think about this and include St Luke’s in your will it is one way of ensuring the ongoing maintenance of this extraordinary parish.
