Blessing of the animals will take place at the Sanctuary step after the last hymn.

As Jesus moves further afield, his teachings, yet again, come under the scrutiny of those preoccupied with legalisms. Seeking to drive a wedge between his teachings and those of the Jewish Torah and of the state, they test him. In his retort, Jesus affirms the equality of women and men and the sanctity of their union as grounded in creation. Legalisms can be restrictive and lead to exclusion whereas the love of God transcends human boundaries. Jesus drives home the point by rebuking his disciples for their exclusion of the little children and his welcoming of them with open arms.

Pray that we may discern those inner legalisms that can lead us to exclude others from sharing in our experience of the Kingdom of God.

First Reading Genesis 1.26-31
A reading from the book of Genesis

Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Saint Francis and the Sow

The bud stands for all things,
even for those things that don’t flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness,
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing;
as Saint Francis put his hand on the creased forehead
of the sow, and told her in words and in touch
blessings of earth on the sow, and the sow
Began remembering all down her thick length,
from the earthen snout all the way
through the fodder and slops to the spiritual curl of the tail,
from the hard spininess spiked out from the spine
down through the great broken heart
to the sheer blue milken dreaminess spurting and shuddering
from the fourteen teats into the fourteen mouths sucking and blowing beneath them:

In the hall during morning tea today we will be entertained by Dennis Clare, a mime artist of great reputation! Please enjoy and respond with acclamation to his great miming. And a thank you to Br Noel for organizing this artist for our enjoyment!
Wardens Meeting after morning tea this morning.
The Wardens and Treasurer have received good news that the Diocesan Finance Committee has re-assessed our accounts for 2014 and determined that we have met our “local revenue” obligations. While this is good news we are mindful that next year costs will rise again and as our Treasurer is constantly reminding us we should not so heavily rely on our Opshop. Our freewill offering is very important to the viability of the parish.
The Parish Council would like to say thank you to Fabian LoSchiavo for making the high altar frontal and for painting the hall. We all appreciate his efforts and thank him sincerely.
Flowers in church today have been donated by Br Noel Jeffs and some were also in the church from the funeral of the Late Les Dixon.

The Wardens would like to acknowledge with thanks a gift to the Parish from Les’ estate of $3,000. This money will be put into our trust funds.

Sunday 18th October - St Luke’s Patronal Festival with our Guest Preacher, the Rev’d Anastasia Webster-Hawes, Rector of Blayney. There may be some visitors from Bathurst coming and if anyone can provide bed and board for the Saturday night, it would be appreciated; please see Fr Philip or Ruth. Anastasia and Don will be staying with Fr Philip and Rosemary.
Sunday 25 October - Parish Council meets following morning tea.
Saturday 28 November – Our Christmas Market! Time to start baking our Christmas cakes and puddings!

Our ABM Parish Projects for 2015

Al-Ahli Arab Hospital Gaza (PS001LH); this hospital is the oldest hospital in Gaza City and has 80 beds. It provides medical and health services to patients regardless of ethnicity religion, political affiliation or economic status. It serves everybody in the community.
Wontulp-Bi-Buya Theological College in Cairns (AU003WB); trains indigenous people for ordained ministry and lay-ministry.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy in Vanuatu VU006EA)

Our total to ABM this year towards our nominated projects is $7,365.30.

BEQUESTS
We have benefited greatly in the past from bequests left to the parish by parishioners who have included St Luke’s in their will. Some amounts left to the Parish have been large, some very small; all have been appreciated. The Wardens have elected to retain this capital and generally only use the interest as needed for various projects. If you would like to think about this and include St Luke’s in your will it is one way of ensuring the ongoing maintenance of this extraordinary parish.
