Today – Par­ish Coun­cil Meets in the church after morn­ing tea.

 

Next Sunday 5th March Par­ish Annu­al Gen­er­al meet­ing will be held in the church after 9.30am ser­vice and morn­ing tea.  Nom­in­a­tion forms are avail­able in the church foy­er and the Com­munity Resource Centre table.

 

Next Sunday – 6pm Spir­it of Taize ser­vice is can­celled due to hold­ing of AGM.

Sat­urday 4 March 2023 – Quiet Day — 10.00 am to 4.15 pm

Lead­er: The Rev’d Ron­ald Hende­r­son OGS.

The church and grounds of St John’s Bal­main, Spring Street, Birch­grove.  Gath­er for cof­fee /conversation at 10 00 am.  Great­er Silence from 10.15 am until 4.15 pm.  Morn­ing and Even­ing Pray­er; the Holy Euchar­ist; two brief addresses; oppor­tun­ity for indi­vidu­al con­sulta­tion with lead­er; rest in the garden and loc­al park.

The Quiet Day is free of charge.  Par­ti­cipants are asked to bring their own packed lunches.  Tea and cof­fee provided.  All very welcome.

Sat­urday 11 March — Cinema Para­diso:  Cas­ab­lanca (1942)

The film is fam­ous for its lead char­ac­ters, mem­or­able lines, and per­vas­ive theme song.  Accord­ing to Wiki­pe­dia, it con­sist­ently ranks near the top of lists of the greatest films in his­tory.  In 1989, the United States Lib­rary of Con­gress selec­ted the film as one of the first to be pre­served for being “cul­tur­ally, his­tor­ic­ally, or aes­thet­ic­ally significant”.

Sat­urday 25th March – NSW State Elec­tions: The Elect­or­al Office is hir­ing our hall from 3 p.m. Fri­day 24th to mid­night on 25th March.  We will be hold­ing a BBQ and a cake stall.  It will also bene­fit our OpShop.

 

Cas­u­al Opshop Volun­teers Required:  The OpShop needs volun­teers to work in the shop on a cas­u­al basis.  Cas­u­al volun­teers provide relief for oth­er volun­teers who are on leave or away for some reas­on.  Gen­er­ally shifts worked are 2.5 hours either in the morn­ing or after­noon – Tues­day to Sat­urday — in a very friendly and cooper­at­ive work­ing envir­on­ment.  Please see Andy Ser­afin for fur­ther information.

 

A par­ish week­end retreat is planned to be held after East­er in mid to late April, at The Old Mon­as­tery at Stroud.  Please let the Rect­or or War­dens know if you are inter­ested, as we need at least 6 people to go to make it worth­while.  There is only basic accom­mod­a­tion, and we take food and pre­pare our own meals.

 

Noel Jeff’s book of poetryWalk­ing in Stealth’ is now avail­able at Garden Lounge in South King Street.

 

Poetry Board update:  A poem by Noel Jeffs about Li Tim Oi has been pos­ted on the poetry board with an asso­ci­ated story about her to remind us of her up-incom­ing 80th anniversary of ordin­a­tion in 2024.
