All Saints Day (from Wikipedia, so it must be right!)
All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows, Solemnity of All Saints, or Feast of All Saints) is a solemnity celebrated on 1 November by the Catholic Church and several Protestant denominations, and on the first Sunday after Pentecost in Eastern Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, in honour of all the saints, known and unknown. The liturgical celebration begins at Vespers on the evening of 31 October and ends at the close of 1 November. It is thus the day before All Souls' Day.
Hallowmas is another term for the feast, and was used by Shakespeare in this sense. However, a few recent writers have applied this term to the three days from 31 October to 2 November inclusive, as a synonym for the triduum of Hallowtide.
In Catholic theology, the day commemorates all those who have attained the beatific vision in Heaven. It is a national holiday in many historically Catholic countries. In the Catholic Church and many Anglican churches, the next day specifically commemorates the departed faithful who have not yet been purified and reached heaven. Christians who celebrate All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day do so in the fundamental belief that there is a prayerful spiritual bond between those in heaven (the "Church triumphant"), and the living (the "Church militant"). Other Christian traditions define, remember and respond to the saints in different ways; for example, in the Methodist Church, the word "saints" refers to all Christians and therefore, on All Saints' Day, the Church Universal, as well as the deceased members of a local congregation, are honored and remembered.
In the Beatitudes from the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, we hear some of the qualities that we remember in the saints. Saints are merciful, they are pure in heart, they hunger and thirst for righteousness. The life of a saint does not consist in perfection, but in pursuing the blessing that comes from living in the pattern of Jesus’ own life.

Introit Hymn: TiS 455 For all the saints
Sentence: Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5.10.
Collect:We praise you, heavenly Father,
that you have knit together your chosen ones
in one communion and fellowship
in the body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord:
give us grace so to follow your blessed saints
in all virtuous and godly living
that we may come to those inexpressible joys
you have prepared for those who truly love you;
through Jesus Christ our Saviour,
who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns,
one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

First Reading Revelation 7.9-17
A reading from the book of the prophet Jeremiah
After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands.
They cried out in a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshipped God, singing, ‘Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God for ever and ever! Amen.’
Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, ‘Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?’ I said to him, ‘Sir, you are the one that knows.’
Then he said to me, ‘These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason they are before the throne of God, and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.
They will hunger no more, and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat; for the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’

Psalm 34.1-10
1 I will bless the | Lord con|tinually:
his praise shall be | always | in my | mouth.
2 Let my soul | boast of the | Lord:
the humble shall | hear it | and re|joice.
3 O praise the | Lord with | me:
let us ex|alt his | | name to|gether.
4 For I sought the Lord’s | help and he | answered:
and he freed me from | all my | fears.
5 Look towards him and be | bright with | joy:
your | faces shall | not be a|shamed.
6 Here is a wretch who cried and the | Lord | heard him:
and | saved him from | all his | troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps round | those who | fear him:
and de|livers them | in their | need.
8 O taste and see that the | Lord is | good:
happy the | man who | hides in | him!
9 Fear the Lord all | you his | holy ones:
for those who | fear him | never | lack.
10. Lions may suffer | want and go | hungry:
but those who seek the | Lord lack | nothing | good.
Glo|ry to | God; Father | Son and | Holy | Spirit.
As in the be|ginning so | now; and for | ever. | A|men.
Second Reading 1 John 3.1-3
A reading from Paul’s First letter of John
See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
For the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God

The Gospel Matthew 5.1-12
The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
X Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. ‘Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. ‘Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. ‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. ‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. ‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ‘Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
