NOTICES:
CONGRATULATIONS TO ANDY SERAFIN!
It was unanimously endorsed at St Luke’s Parish Council in July to nominate Andy Serafin for the NSW VOLUNTEEER OF THE YEAR AWARD – Senior Section. It is of no surprise to any of us that he has won the first round of the competition as Senior Volunteer of the Year (65+), in the Mid-Western Sydney Region.
His voluntary work began way back in his early life – when he worked at the GIO for 32 years; 8 of which he gave as a volunteer Board Member on their Credit Union. After retirement he took up an interest in horticulture, antiques and his love of music directed his generosity to Musica Viva, supporting young players at workshops. In fact, we know Andy is always generous to those in need – especially in the amount of time he devotes to managing our OpShop and to those in need.
Despite suffering significant health issues, especially over the last 5 years, Andy has shown phenomenal will-power, in attending to his sacristan duties, the Memorial Garden and to the OpShop. He is one of the saints!!
NEXT SUNDAY: Parish Council meets in the church after the service and morning tea.
Tuesday at 7.30pm — A Bible Study on St John’s Gospel lead by Fr Philip: Address: 5 Lincoln Street, Stanmore. Mob: 0431 655 220. Please bring a Bible. Supper will be provided. All welcome.

NEXT Saturday 23rd Sept 2023 — Cinema Paradiso — Modern Times:
3.30pm for a 3.45pm start, concluding at 5.40pm.
RSVP: contact Brett by Today (Sunday, 17 September 2023)
Modern Times (1936) — Part-talkie, the film is a satirical, hilarious and romantic comedy (Chaplin’s romance theme was later given lyrics and became the song Smile, first recorded by Nat King Cole). It is the first film to feature Chaplin’s voice in The Nonsense Song.
The film uses silence and physical jokes (Chaplin performed all of his own stunts) to depict the dehumanising effects of industrialisation and automation, exploring themes of humanity versus machine, the powerlessness of the poor, and the connections between unemployment, poverty and crime.
