Anglic­ans Togeth­er Din­ner: Thursday 17^th Nov 

Anglic­ans Togeth­er are hav­ing a din­ner on Thursday, 17^th Novem­ber with two guest speak­ers rep­res­ent­ing dif­fer­ing tra­di­tions in the Anglic­an Church.  The top­ic is: ‘The Anglic­an Church of Aus­tralia: Can we stay togeth­er.’  One of the speak­ers is Peter Sher­lock, a well respec­ted Anglic­an theo­lo­gian and his­tor­i­an.  We need to get a rough idea of num­bers so we can book an appro­pri­ately sized ven­ue.  If you are inter­ested please let Tony Brown­low know after the service.

Wordsworth & Maskell Pipe Organ Recit­al — 3pm on Sunday, 18 Septem­ber 2022 — keep and share the date

Well-known to Sydney audi­ences, St Luke’s is delighted to wel­come Heath­er Moen-Boyd to per­form, at last, a recit­al to mark the final stage in the res­tor­a­tion of the Church’s unique 1883 Wordsworth & Maskell Pipe Organ.

From Moz­art to Mendels­sohn, whose works were per­formed at the instrument’s 1884 recit­al, the per­form­ance will include but­ter­flies and cuckoos for the Spring Equi­nox and the Great Gate of Kyiv.

Entry:  $10 ($5 all con­ces­sions), includ­ing pro­gramme note.

The fifteenth Lambeth Conference

26 July – 8^th August 2022

Con­vened by The Arch­bish­op of Can­ter­bury in 2022, the Lam­beth Con­fer­ence is a gath­er­ing of bish­ops from across the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion for pray­er and reflec­tion, fel­low­ship and dia­logue on church and world affairs.

With the theme of ‘God’s Church for God’s World — walk­ing, listen­ing and wit­ness­ing together,’

the con­fer­ence will explore what it means for the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion to be respons­ive to the needs of a 21st Cen­tury world.

 

What is the Lam­beth Conference?

Every bish­op of the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion is invited to the Lam­beth Con­fer­ence – which is con­vened by The Most Rev­er­end Justin Welby – The Arch­bish­op of Can­ter­bury.  The Lam­beth Con­fer­ence has met since 1867, hap­pens once-a-dec­ade and is a sig­ni­fic­ant event in the life of the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion.  The con­fer­ence will explore church and world affairs.  Out­comes of the con­fer­ence will shape the life of the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion in the dec­ade ahead.

 

Vis­ion and purpose

This event plays an influ­en­tial role in the life of the Anglic­an Church and gath­ers togeth­er bish­ops and spouses for pray­er, bible study, wor­ship and fel­low­ship and helps shape the life of the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion for the next decade.

The con­fer­ence takes place at the Uni­ver­sity of Kent, Can­ter­bury Cathed­ral and Lam­beth Palace dur­ing the sum­mer of 2022.

Photo: Anglic­an Archives [Epis­copal News Ser­vice]  With the 15th Lam­beth Con­fer­ence sched­uled this sum­mer, Arch­bish­op of Can­ter­bury Justin Welby is seek­ing to unite the Anglic­an Com­mu­nion under com­mon expres­sions of faith and social engage­ment, rather than focus­ing on debates over human sexu­al­ity that have divided bish­ops at past conferences.

“The aim of this con­fer­ence – which, like all the [Lam­beth] con­fer­ences, is a very sig­ni­fic­ant moment in the life of the com­munity – is to encour­age Anglic­ans around the world to be look­ing out­wards to the world,” he said in a press con­fer­ence with con­fer­ence organ­izers on June 22.  “The church should express its mis­sion and its life of dis­ciple­ship through engage­ment with the great chal­lenges that the next 30 or 40 years will impose upon the vast major­ity of Anglic­ans, espe­cially those in areas of cli­mate fra­gil­ity, and polit­ic­al and oth­er fragility.”
