Ascen­sion Day Cel­eb­ra­tion at Christ Church St Laurence:

Fr Jeff has been invited to preach at the Ascen­sion Day ser­vice at Christ Church St Laurence.  This will be held at 6.00 p.m. on Thursday, 13 May.

As happened two years ago, mem­bers of St Luke’s Enmore are warmly invited to attend this ser­vice to cel­eb­rate this import­ant event in the story of Jesus with our broth­ers and sis­ters from CCSL.

Fr Daniel added this inform­a­tion to his gra­cious invit­a­tion to us:   There is no need for people to pre-book, but they would simply need to register on arrival.  We’re not up to doing refresh­ments after ser­vices, but some of our par­ish go over to the Great South­ern Hotel for a meal after even­ing Masses.  St Luke’s people would be more than welcome.

You are Invited!

I really want to hear your ideas about the what the par­ish should be doing in the future.  Everything is on the table so come along and have your say.  It would be great to have some ideas in writ­ing before the meet­ing to talk about in table groups.

Pos­sible top­ics include:  Liturgy – Morn­ing ser­vice and oth­er ser­vices;  Oth­er issues about life at Church;  Social life;  Youth and chil­dren;  Chris­ti­an Edu­ca­tion;  Mis­sion – loc­al and tra­di­tion­al;  and  Pas­tor­al Care.

Maybe you have oth­er areas to talk about.  The best ideas that emerge from this meet­ing will go for­ward to anoth­er gath­er­ing to con­sider fur­ther and flesh out and then to par­ish lead­er­ship for consideration.

Some­thing Different

On Wed­nes­days after Euchar­ist and Morn­ing Tea we will be listen­ing to an audio course entitled The Gos­pel of Mark 101.  How to read and Under­stand the Gos­pel of Action. [The Gos­pel Accord­ing to Mark].

It has been put togeth­er by Ian Box­all, Asso­ci­ate Pro­fess­or of New Test­a­ment, The Cath­ol­ic Uni­ver­sity of Amer­ica, Wash­ing­ton, DC.  This series of talks is very access­ible to any­one inter­ested in going deep­er into the gos­pel.  I have per­son­ally found it enlight­en­ing and enjoy­able to listen to.  So a warm invit­a­tion to all.  If you have Aud­ible at home, the course is avail­able through that plat­form.  In pre­par­a­tion for next week please read Chapter 1:1–13.

Cinema Para­diso:- returns with the 1987 Dan­ish film Babette’s Feast, which won the Academy Award for Best Inter­na­tion­al Fea­ture Film in that year.  It is the per­fect film for these days of con­tinu­ing social restraint, whilst The Long Table con­tin­ues in recess as we await vaccination.

Babette’s lav­ish cel­eb­rat­ory ban­quet tempts the fam­ily’s dwind­ling con­greg­a­tion, who abjure such fleshly pleas­ures as fine foods and wines.
