Ascension Day Celebration at Christ Church St Laurence:
Fr Jeff has been invited to preach at the Ascension Day service at Christ Church St Laurence. This will be held at 6.00 p.m. on Thursday, 13 May.
As happened two years ago, members of St Luke’s Enmore are warmly invited to attend this service to celebrate this important event in the story of Jesus with our brothers and sisters from CCSL.
Fr Daniel added this information to his gracious invitation to us: There is no need for people to pre-book, but they would simply need to register on arrival. We’re not up to doing refreshments after services, but some of our parish go over to the Great Southern Hotel for a meal after evening Masses. St Luke’s people would be more than welcome.
Next Sunday — 25th April (after morning tea):
Discussion on the Parish’s Future, its Mission and Ministry
You are Invited!
I really want to hear your ideas about the what the parish should be doing in the future. Everything is on the table so come along and have your say. It would be great to have some ideas in writing before the meeting to talk about in table groups.
Possible topics include: Liturgy – Morning service and other services; Other issues about life at Church; Social life; Youth and children; Christian Education; Mission – local and traditional; and Pastoral Care.
Maybe you have other areas to talk about. The best ideas that emerge from this meeting will go forward to another gathering to consider further and flesh out and then to parish leadership for consideration.
Fr Jeff
Something Different
On Wednesdays after Eucharist and Morning Tea we will be listening to an audio course entitled The Gospel of Mark 101. How to read and Understand the Gospel of Action. [The Gospel According to Mark].
It has been put together by Ian Boxall, Associate Professor of New Testament, The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. This series of talks is very accessible to anyone interested in going deeper into the gospel. I have personally found it enlightening and enjoyable to listen to. So a warm invitation to all. If you have Audible at home, the course is available through that platform. In preparation for next week please read Chapter 1:1–13.
Cinema Paradiso:- returns with the 1987 Danish film Babette’s Feast, which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film in that year. It is the perfect film for these days of continuing social restraint, whilst The Long Table continues in recess as we await vaccination.
3.45pm for a 4pm start on Saturday, 29 May 2021 in the Church Hall, wine at interval.
RSVP required by 23 May 2021 to Brett via brettdavies2042@gmail.com or Mob: 0431 133 193.
Should you wish to contribute to catering, please let Brett know by 23 May.
Synopsis: Beautiful but pious sisters Martine (Birgitte Federspiel) and Philippa (Bodil Kjer) grow to spinsterhood under the wrathful eye of their strict pastor father on the forbidding and desolate coast of Jutland, Denmark, until one day, Philippa’s former suitor sends a Parisian refugee named Babette (Stéphane Audran) to serve as the family cook. Babette’s lavish celebratory banquet tempts the family’s dwindling congregation, who abjure such fleshly pleasures as fine foods and wines.
Lea MacNeil has jam to sell and various sauces; please email her lea.macneil@gmail.com if you would like to give her an order. Points for Reflection and Discussion from Working Preacher.org
- What have you learned about being disturbed or angry but avoiding sin? (Psalm 4:4)
- Notice and ponder the names for God and Jesus in this passage, including Author of Life (Acts 4:12–19).
- What does being a witness mean to you? What parallels do you see with courtroom witnesses? (Luke 24:48)
