Singing in Church – Next Week we CAN sing!!!

This week we have been advised by the bish­op that from 7 Decem­ber 2020 we will be able to sing in Church again.  Alleluia!

There are a num­ber of changes to our Cov­id restric­tions, but this is what Bp Stead told us about singing:

Con­greg­a­tion­al singing indoors is per­miss­ible, but NSW health strongly recom­mends wear­ing of masks.

For the moment, the 1.5m rule as detailed below still applies.

Car­ol­ers Wanted!  Our Car­ol Ser­vice will be held at 6pm on Sunday 20 Decem­ber, out­doors in the car­park.  If you have missed singing, this is your chance.  With groups of five sing­ers per­mit­ted, Jo Bur­ton has kindly offered to lend her skills with ensemble singing to co-ordin­ate as many groups of socially dis­tanced sing­ers as is neces­sary for all to sing. No spe­cial expert­ise is neces­sary! Just a love of car­ols and singing, along with a will­ing­ness to attend a rehears­al on Sunday 13 Decem­ber, imme­di­ately after morn­ing tea.  At the rehears­al, Jo will match the groups with car­ols.  Regis­tra­tion is essen­tial by TODAY- Sunday 6 Dec for safe plan­ning; please email Jo Bur­ton at jo.burton@iinet.net.au.  She is look­ing for­ward to hear­ing from you.

 

Wed­nes­day 9^th Dec — Advent Stud­ies:  After 10.00 a.m. Euchar­ist and Morn­ing Tea and in the even­ing at 7.00 p.m.  We are using “Advent for Every­one – A Jour­ney with the Apostles” by Tom Wright.  I have some books for free or they can be down­loaded instantly from Amazon via Kindle for a small cost.

Thursday 10^th Dec — Pas­tor­al Care Group: Meet­ing in hall between 12–2pm.

 

Next Sunday 13^th Decem­ber — Car­ol Ser­vice Rehears­al:  For those who have registered to sing at the Car­ol Ser­vice — imme­di­ately after morn­ing tea.  At the rehears­al, Jo Bur­ton will match the groups with carols.

Retire­ment of the Most Rev Dr Glenn N Dav­ies (Arch­bish­op of Sydney):

On 23 Novem­ber 2020, the Stand­ing Com­mit­tee of the Syn­od noted that Arch­bish­op Glenn Dav­ies will reach the age of 70 years and six months on 26 March 2021, and will retire on that date in accord­ance with sub­clause 5(3) of the Retire­ments Ordin­ance 1993 (and res­ol­u­tions of this Stand­ing Com­mit­tee made on 23 March 2020). The Stand­ing Com­mit­tee sub­sequently made a res­ol­u­tion under sub­clause 2(2) of the Arch­bish­op of Sydney’s Elec­tion Ordin­ance 1982 (the Ordin­ance) declar­ing that the See of Sydney will be vacant from that date.  A spe­cial ses­sion of the 52nd Syn­od to elect the next Arch­bish­op is planned to be held in either the week com­men­cing 3 May 2021, or the week com­men­cing 10 May 2021. Unfor­tu­nately, due to COVID-19 restric­tions it has not yet been pos­sible to secure a firm book­ing at a suit­able ven­ue, and it remains unclear wheth­er the Syn­od will be able to meet at that time. For sim­il­ar reas­ons, the first ordin­ary ses­sion of the 52nd Syn­od, cur­rently planned for 27 April 2021 also remains uncon­firmed.  A sum­mons to the ordin­ary and spe­cial ses­sions of Syn­od, along with inform­a­tion on the mak­ing of nom­in­a­tions and the appoint­ment of altern­ates, will be sent to mem­bers of Syn­od as soon as practicable.

A note from the Treas­urer: 

It has been a dif­fi­cult year for the par­ish in so many ways.  How­ever, con­greg­a­tion­al giv­ing has remained resi­li­ent through­out, with all of us shift­ing our giv­ing to inter­net bank­ing dur­ing April and May, and 80% of giv­ing remain­ing by inter­net bank­ing.  It is no small feat to have made such an adjust­ment, and we can all be rightly proud of this achieve­ment.  I would like to encour­age all those who have shif­ted to inter­net bank­ing to con­tin­ue with it.  The great­er pre­dict­ab­il­ity and the admin­is­trat­ive ease of not hand­ling large amounts of cash is appre­ci­ated, and this will be par­tic­u­larly so as the hol­i­day sea­son comes upon us.   Stu­art Veitch
