NEXT SUNDAY 19th Feb – At 9.30am we will be holding a Service for Reconciliation and Understanding.
Our guest speaker will be Jennifer Newman, a proud First Nations person. Jennifer grew up in Narromine, NSW; descended from long lines of Wiradjuri and Australian yarn spinners, Jennifer lives by the Cooks River on Wangal Country, where she contributes to local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander forums and river care groups. Jennifer is a member of the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and has delivered Aboriginal Studies talks and courses for local and international universities, training centres and community groups. Knitting stories together, Jennifer strives for recognition and connections necessary to walk together comfortably with care and respect on Aboriginal land.

Parish Office Hours change: From Monday 6th February the office days and times have changed to Tuesday 9.15am — 3.00pm, Wednesday 9.15am — 2.15pm, & Thursday 9.15am — 3.00pm. The office will be closed on Monday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday.
Palm Crosses Needed: Please remember to bring in your palm crosses from last year. We will burn these to make the ash on Shrove Tuesday for our Ash Wednesday services.

Lenten Study – Starting Wed 22nd February
Facilitated by Fr Jeff using the 2023 ABM Lenten resource “The imaginary Doorway: Stories and studies from the Gospel of Inclusion”.
Studies to be held on Wednesdays after 10.30am service and morning tea; and Monday nights at 7.30pm online via Zoom.

Pancakes at the Rectory – 7pm on Tuesday 21st Feb: Fr Jeff and Michelle invite parishioners and their relatives to the Rectory to share in the tradition of eating pancakes on Shrove Tuesday as a precursor to the beginning of Lent the following day (Ash Wednesday). Fr Jeff is the pancake maker for this special occasion. Please come, and though not necessary, a filling/topping for some pancakes would be most welcome. Please RSVP so that Fr Jeff knows how many pancakes to make.

Saturday 4 March 2023 – Quiet Day — 10.00 am to 4.15 pm
Leader: The Rev’d Ronald Henderson OGS.
The church and grounds of St John’s Balmain, Spring Street, Birchgrove. Gather for coffee /conversation at 10 00 am. Greater Silence from 10.15 am until 4.15 pm. Morning and Evening Prayer; the Holy Eucharist; two brief addresses; opportunity for individual consultation with leader; rest in the garden and local park.
The Quiet Day is free of charge. Participants are asked to bring their own packed lunches. Tea and coffee provided. All very welcome.
Sunday 5th March – Parish Annual General Meeting: Will be held in the church after 9.30am service and morning tea.
If you are an office bearer, would you please submit your report/s to the Parish Office by email, on or before Sunday 19th Feb, as the collated final edition should be in the hands of parishioners the week prior to the AGM, Sunday 26 February. And in accordance with Diocesan procedure, the date of the AGM will be affixed to the entrance doors to the church, two weeks prior to the meeting.

The film is famous for its lead characters, memorable lines, and pervasive theme song. According to Wikipedia, it consistently ranks near the top of lists of the greatest films in history. In 1989, the United States Library of Congress selected the film as one of the first to be preserved for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

Saturday 25th March – NSW State Elections: The Electoral Office is hiring our hall from 3 p.m. Friday 24th to midnight on 25th March. This will be a good opportunity for us to hold a sausage sizzle and possibly a cake stall. It will also benefit our Opshop. More news later about times and what you might be able to help with.
